I am a loyal reader of Mr. Elliott columns every Sunday in my San Jose Mercury News newspaper in both the Travel and Consumer Advocate sections. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the wonderful work you have done to help the public in resolving their problems with recalcitrant companies.

Please HELP me in resolving the issues I encountered with my Yahoo Mail account since March 9th, 2019.

I had reported the problems to Yahoo Customer Care portal as soon as I realized I could not send nor save any of my unable-to-be-sent messages in the Drafts folder as well as not able to receive any messages around 1:30PM on Sat. March 9th, 2019. My case # is 2xxxxxxx.

These SAME problems happened to the SAME email account on May 2nd, 2018, and by May 4th, 2018, the problems were resolved and I was able to use my email account again. However, this time, I kept waiting but every day was the same, Yahoo Customer Care gave me the same answer that their Engineering team is working to fix the problems but there's NO progress.

I am DESPERATE for your help to resolve the problems for me as I NEED to be able to receive messages from my business contacts who only had that email address registered. I also NEED to be able to send emails to my business contacts as well.

I wrote to the senior management contacts at Yahoo as listed on your website but I don't know if they are most current since the last update was in 2015 and I know that at least the CEO Marissa Meyer is NO longer working there.

Here's Yahoo Customer Care's email address in case you need it:

customercare@cc.yahoo-inc.com

I would be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL if you could help RESTORE my email account to normal functions as this has caused tremendous stress and disruption of my business for several days.

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

The email validator I use shows "valid" for all Yahoo addresses in our contacts. Have you contacted them all, and how long ago?

You can report the invalid email here:

https://www.elliott.org/add-a-company/

Did you write to all the Executives at one time? If you did it most likely led your letter to spam.

A couple of questions about your problem-
-have to tried using a different browser to access your mail?
- were there any updates done on your computer right before the problems began?

We can’t restore your account but getting your letter to the right person we can help with.

Nicole, Yahoo is a free service. I'm sorry to say that the chances of you getting this resolved are not good. While you waiting ... and waiting ... I would establish an email account with a different ISP and start to notify everyone of your new address. This could be a gargantuan research job, but I think the chances of you recovering your information at Yahoo are not good.

If and when you do get things fairly squared away, establish a third email with yet another provider. Be sure each entity has all your contacts, and save any and all important emails to BOTH accounts. When I need to save important emails, I forward them to both accounts into a folder with a name that will allow me to find the email at some point in the future. For example, all confirms and other info on a specific trip are saved with a prefix like "FLA" or "DEN". Use something that will resonate with you 2 years from now. I can easily pull an email up whenever I need to review it. The process takes about 6 seconds and is pretty much fail-safe. Every once in a while, print a list of your contacts in PDF and keep it on your hard drive, backed up with a flash. Of course, I hope that Yahoo will come through for you.

Just took a quick look. None of the executive contacts for Yahoo are there anymore. Most have been gone for years. That list probably should be updated or taken down

If the contacts are invalid use this to request updated information:

https://www.elliott.org/add-a-company/

We have one person who researches addresses and he is also a volunteer like the rest of us. It is impossible to continually verify every email contact we have. We rely on users to complete this form of they find invalid information.

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all your helpful advice. I am happy to report that my email account has been restored back to normal and I have been able to receive and send emails now. As I mentioned before, this exact same problem happened almost a year ago to the same email account but Yahoo solved it in 2 days for me then and this time, it took 5 days. Neil, yes, I wrote to all the executives listed on your website except for Marissa Meyer as I knew for sure she is no longer their CEO. But, as I suspected, all those executives are long gone as smd reported. I also contacted them using Twitter but not sure if that's as effective as by using the email address of their customer service as I listed in my original post.

No, I didn't have any upgrade done prior to the problems happened. And it didn't work across all devices, mobile or otherwise. But anyway, it works now finally. I would also like to comment that Yahoo has changed its website so that there's NOT a way to even contact them through their portal anymore unless you pay the $4.99/month for premium service. On Mon. March 11th, I was still able to select Live Chat option or Contact a Specialist through their portal to report my problems and that's what I did. However, by Tues. March 12th, I returned to their Yahoo Customer Care website and those 2 options are GONE. They only allow you to find answer to your problems by looking at their posted help articles so it's very bad for Yahoo users going forward. But I do have their email address for Customer Care as I posted. Let's hope they don't change that as well.

Thank you again for all your kind help. I am really grateful.

Hello, Nicole D. I have a janky Yahoo email and I keep it because it was one of the first emails I set up. I hope you get this issue resolved and in the mean time do set up an email with a different company (if you haven't done so already), because your business (business contacts) deserve the best.

If you are using Yahoo for a business address, you should really have a program that will back up your mail to your local machine, such as Thunderbird. Remember that Yahoo, Gmail, and Outlook are free email services and make no guarantees that your mail will always be available - "free" is the operative word here.

Nicole make sure your yahoo mail is in classic mode and not the new super duper mode which is not reliable at all. and do setup a gmail account. yahoo is very buggy. I use yahoo for registration and newsletter only - things I can afford to lose.

Hi Neil, no, they did not tell me what caused the problems. I just checked it last night and voila`, emails once again were received in my account and I was able to send emails as well. And yes, I did report the Yahoo executives' contacts as invalid on Elliott website at the link you provided. Thank you.

Hi FBKwrites, my problems with my Yahoo account did get resolved, thank you. I do have alternate emails with both Yahoo and Google but I don't use them as main channel of correspondence.

Hi AMA, all my emails in Yahoo account are intact. I just couldn't receive or send any for 5 days.

Hi publicme, yes, my Yahoo is still in classic mode but I thought I read that they will automatically upgrade it soon to their new email format, right?

Yes. If I used email to conduct business, I would use a paid-for account. Anything free is often worth exactly what you pay for it.
