Is there a way to prove that weather was the reason for a flight cancellation? Why would only 1 flight be cancelled for weather, when multiple flights were heading to the same destination and flying in from all over? Would an airline claim weather so as to not pay for hotels?

@Pegu306 Airlines run systems not individual flights so weather anywhere in the system can effect flights at airports not directly involved in the weather.

For example ... Severe thunderstorms at CLE delay #715 to BWI. By the time it arrives in BWI, the crew has timed out so the flight from BWI to MDW is cancelled. Now neither BWI nor MDW was directly effected by the severe thunderstorms but the crew and the air frame were.

Did you make it to Orlando?

Chicago area had terrible thunderstorms and flight delays on June 27th— delays as in hours— up to 4 hours arriving. If one member of the crew was caught in that they may not have been able to fly. Chicago could ripple to BWI

After 16 hours in the airport, and a lot of money for food. Asked to be upgraded to priority boarding so my daughter and I could be gauranteed and was told for $40. Asked for a bit of leniency on that and again ...no.

Thanks for all the help...It just seemed strange that I didn't see any other flights in or out of BWI that we're cancelled.

Sometimes weather earlier in the day also reduces capacity at an airport or in the ATC structure. In many cases, airlines are asked by the government or airport authority to cancel a specific number of flight to meet the reduced capacity.
