On Thursday, June 30, our daughter's flight from Tel Aviv to Prague was delayed (Czech Airlines OK 4285)
and she missed her connecting flight to Rome ( Czech Airlines OK 724).
After a bit of a hassle she was put on another flight; but not the same airlines as her original connecting ticket (Vueling Airlines). She was told that her luggage was sent ahead... somehow her suitcase had made the connecting flight. However, upon arrival in Rome, the suitcase was nowhere to be found. It still has not shown up. She did file a Property Irregularity Report (File Reference # FCOVY13597 via Vueling Airlines) but nothing has happened, and cannot get through to either airline.
She is traveling through Italy until July 10, without her suitcase. Are there any ways you can help locate her luggage? It was a big suitcase and full of traveling gear! I am happy to provide you with added information if necessary.
Many-thanks for your time and prompt consideration.

I wish we had that power! :) We provide advice and direct letter writers to the best channels to succeed on their own. The others will have more specific insight about these airlines. In the interim, be sure your daughter promptly reported the loss at the airport, which it seems she did, and make sure she saves all of her receipts this week for her reimbursement claim. Is she going to be based at one hotel, or traveling around? Did she receive a ticket or confirmation # at the time of her report so she an follow up?

As you may know, our forums went down shortly after the last post. As luck would have it, Jeffrey is a good friend of mine that signed up and posted this not knowing that I am one of the directors, after he read one of Chris's newspaper articles! So I was able to contact him a different way and tell him to try one of the executive contacts here:

Regarding the Vueling and their lost baggage problems, one has to wonder where all the luggage is going?? Do they throw it away? Do they give it to a charity?? Or is this part of some massive theft ring???
I find it hard to believe that an entire plane of luggage can go missing. It is to the point wher one has to question whether regulators are involved do to their... non- existence in the matter. How long can this keep going on.
I have flown on many flights and often noticed that a few people did not receive their luggage, but for 20% of a flight not to receive their luggage makes no sense. It is hard to believe that this is not intentional.

It could be that someone else picked up the bag and took it home with them. When was the last time you saw anyone checking the luggage airline tag to the tag on your boarding pass to make sure they agree?

I saw it at LGA when we picked up my wife's cousin a few weeks ago and was shocked. They wouldn't let them out of the arrivals area with luggage without verifying.

I can't remember the last time I saw that happen at an airport.

Here is a response from Czech Air.... I am very disappointed....any advice?
Dear Mr. Graber,

I checked available information. Your luggage should be forwarded to Rome at VY6161/01JUN. Also we verified storage in Prague and your luggage is not there.
I am sorry, that I cannot help you, because this is a case of other company. You must contact Lost &Found desk in Rome airport or Vueling Airline (VY) – Customer Care Department, they should help you with this problem.
Best regards,

Just to clarify, what airline transported the bag from Prague to Rome?

Also, assume the bag is lost. Have you filed for compensation? What credit card purchased the flight?

Who did you fly the last leg of your journey? I do not believe it was Czech Air. Regardless of who actually lost the bag or last had the bag you need to file your claim with the airline that carried you.
Who was that?

Someone walked off with my bag several years ago. It all got straightened out because I had full contact info in my bag and the woman called my hotel in London. Since then, I have painted a big silver initial on all my bags, on all sides, with fabric paint. I know it's a huge expense to have people stationed at baggage claim to verify the tags, and I'm shocked as well, Neil. I'm flying into LGA in September and will keep an eye out.

I think that you should send the information received from Czech airline to the Veuling contacts. I thought all along they were the ones responsible.
I agree, Neil, but aren't you supposed to start with the airline that originally tagged your bags? When it involves international carriers, things get pretty sticky just trying to find out where to start to retrieve your bags.

As Peter Greenberg has said, "There are two types of luggage, carry-on and lost." Sorry for the poster's problems, but there are so many ways luggage can be lost in the 'never-never.' Misdirection; actual theft by airline/airport staff; taken away, whether accidentally or on purpose, by another traveler, etc.

When we travel, I try to remember that people displaced from home often travel with less than will fit in a carry-on bag. Pare down packing. Bring quick-dry underwear and t-shirts. Remember, no one cares that you are wearing the same outfit in multiple pictures. So long as you are clean and neat, in neutral-colored clothing without logos, who cares.

I would do as @Neil send and send the same claim to everyone as it takes little additional effort.

This is tricky. If the bag made the planned airline but the pax missed the connection, arriving much later, is it that airline's fault the bag was left sitting there for hours?
On the other hand, the airline she booked a new ticket with, she never checked a bag so I don't see how it's their fault either.
If there is a 3rd airline, the delayed one that started this perhaps it's them as they transported the bag to the connection knowing the actual passenger would be separated from her stuff?

Just hit them all up. So frustrating.

The biggest mistake I see here is stopping in Prague. Why not just fly straight from Tel Aviv to Rome in the first place. When you use a travel agent, we don't need to rely on our own geography skills.
