Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

The river cruise line we get the most complaints about is Viking and weihlac has stated what the issue is- Vikings ships. However, people just blindly book Viking because they advertise without doing any type of research about River levels and the issue there are. We also sailed on AMA and...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

It actually DOES make a BIG difference in river cruising. Viking has older, deeper draft ships which have fared quite poorly with the low water levels. Other river cruise operators have newer, shallower draft ships that that can navigate the rivers when Viking ships cannot. Last fall, at the...

I wish people would stop complaining about missed ports or being bused from one location to another because of bad weather or rivers which are too high or too low for ships to pass. Read the contract for each shipping line be it Ocean or River. Mother Nature is a factor about which no ship...

Neil, Weihlac, thank you very much for this. I have read many of the earlier posts about water levels affecting the ability of ships being able to transit rivers. I didn't realize when I posted that damage to a lock could also affect water levels. Eek!

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

What insurance payout would Viking receive? Insurance isn't a lottery where a misfortune turns into a windfall. Even if they did get an insurance payout it would be to cover their actual costs incurred in dealing with the issue (chartering buses, etc.). It's not something they would profit...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

An Which also greatly affects the weight of the ship in low river levels. People do not realize how many other river cruise lines there are. We can thank Viking for getting the word out about river cruising and their campaign works. But there are many other lines that we never get complaints...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Actually, several other river cruise operators have equally if not more luxurious ships that can navigate the rivers in low/high water situations. Also, other operators using the same size ship as Viking (the max size allowed on the river) may have only half the passenger load that Viking puts...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Viking's larger ships may be a touch more luxurious, but they have turned a number of Viking river cruises into bus tours. This happens when the river is too low for the deeper fraft of Viking ships, or too high, causing them to collide with low bridges. Use a company like AMA, which has a lot...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Viking ships draw ~5.5' of water. Other cruise lines have newer ships that draw ~4.5' of water. That seemingly small difference means some ships can navigate the low water levels and Viking can't. We encountered this issue last fall with another river cruise provider where our ship made every...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Where are you getting that idea? You do realize it costs more for Viking to bus you and use hotels then it would for them to continue on the ship? My wife met a couple last night that were on a Uniworld cruise that was also affected by this and that ship also was able to continue. Please...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Actually this was Viking's fault. One of their river boats hit and damaged the lock enough where it was unusable. My neighbor was booked on Crystal and was notified 2 days before leaving for Europe that his cruise would not be going from Budapest to Amsterdam and he rebooked for August...

Neil, this is very interesting (I'm a newbie, no river cruises). Any information about why AMA could proceed but not the Viking ship? Was it a matter of ship size?

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

Your mistake was booking Viking. My wife’s friend was on an AMA cruise at exactly the same time and was affected by this. But AMA was stopped for four hours and their ship continued. This was not Vikings fault - the heat caused the river levels to be extremely low which is what caused the...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

The cruise operator spelled out in your contract that they can cancel or modify the scheduled itinerary at any time for any reason. You agreed to those terms when you paid for the cruise. You can ask for further consideration but all they are likely to offer is a higher value voucher. There is...

Does anyone have an idea if my proper complaint to Viking Cruises has a chance of being successful in the following situation:

We just returned from a Danube River Cruise on Viking. The cruise began in Budapest. Four days into the cruise, we were informed that a barge had damaged a lock up ahead of us on the river, making it impassable for our ship. We were taken from the original ship by bus 4 hours overland to our...

    Viking Cruises

I know you cannot fit a third person in a cabin and I never said they should add a third person to their cabin - I am a travel agent and fully aware of what can and can't be done on a river cruise. They can book a caregiver in another cabin if they are that concerned.

    Viking Cruises

Unfortunately, you cannot take a third person on a river cruise unless you book a separate cabin. River cruises don't accommodate a third person in the same cabin. This is NOT a Viking Ocean Cruise. But it's a reasonable question. If the concern is so great that she'd cancel the whole cruise...

    Viking Cruises

You are absolutely right. No insurance company or cruise line hand holds as the OP is expecting. Perhaps she would be better off booking a trip with Tauck if she believes they will have someone on the ground I’m every port- I don’t believe they do ftom the experience we have had. But a...

    Viking Cruises

I'm concerned that the OP is overreacting to an unlikely scenario and might be about to cancel a cruise and incur substantial financial losses because some insurance agent is fanning the flames (i.e., "If Viking were only to use my company, this wouldn't be an issue at all"). First of all, the...
