I did not receive my Hotel booking confirmation email

I've had that happen with entry tickets to tourist sites as well, so I usually take a snapshot/screenshot of the confirmation page just in case. Just happened to me recently. A bunch of tickets were filtered as SPAM, and I couldn't manage to access the SPAM folder from my phone. Fortunately I...

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Yes, the OP of that thread was incredibly selfish. Mind-blowing. I did not understand why she felt wronged, especially since in the end she got to bring 3 bags, and that came at the expense of those who boarded later than she did, who were surely forced to check their own carryons that...

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

You're not kidding! She caused her own problem by bringing 3 items (knowing she couldn't) and then didn't do any of the easy fixes to solve it. In the process, she took space from other people who boarded later. And now she wants to complain. Thanks for posting this eye-opening link.

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Well, yes and no. People should follow the rules, but I don't assume that all of them are breaking the rules in a pre-meditated way. Whether they are or aren't is actually not relevant. It is the job of the gate agents to decide what comes on the plane.

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Yes, agreed, but I think you aren't realizing that the people in the later groups may have paid more money for their seats than the people who just happen to have the credit card (I know I have), and may have paid extra (like I have) so that they would be permitted to bring a carryon on board...

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Yes I agree. And I said that in my very first post. Everyone knows that there may not be room in the overhead for their own carryon. The problem is when the lack of space is not due to the reasons you cite but due to the gate agents refusing to enforce the rules. People in later groups...

    Injustice of bumping off passengers

Well that math might be correct, but I do know people who were involuntarily bumped several times last year. They weren't elite as they had just begun flying more for work.

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Well....I'm thinking you may be an elite flyer because I can tell you that when the gate agents take your carefully measured and weighed carry-on to favor those with steamer trunks who boarded earlier, you do lose that flexibility. Going with only carry-ons only works if the gate agents are...

    Injustice of bumping off passengers

Well what is one to do when one is not allowed (per the airline's rules on instruments or international connections) to check in online? If I have an international connection, I have just as much need to make my connection as the guy with the domestic connection or the guy with no connection...

    Injustice of bumping off passengers

I have a question: You all say that it is possible to check in online even with no access to a computer--just get someone else to do it for you, etc. That is not always true. There are some situations where they do not allow you to check in online. If you are traveling with a musical...

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

Hi Neil, With all due respect to your knowledge and experience I find this hard to believe that based on my own experience. I have seen that gate agents get quite authoritarian and be quite willing to tell people in later groups to gate-check their bags. I never saw anyone who didn't want...

Problem of lack of overhead space is too often created by the gate agents

I'd love to put to the group the question as to why the gate agents don't enforce their own published size/weight restrictions for carry-ons with the people in earlier boarding groups. I'm not referring to first class but to the regular groups after the super-elites. When the gate agents...

    Finnair and American Airlines

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I had a similar experience on a recent AA flight but fortunately eventually got my bag back. I paid for a bag to be checked. It had a barcode and was scanned at each locale. I could see clearly right on the AA smartphone app that it was not put on the...

    Early Baggage Arrival

But this would go against all of the security regulations that require you to fly WITH your bag...

Car rental company claimed I didn't return the car - A good story!

Yes! Agreed! We have always done that just to be sure we aren't charged for damage we didn't do--and also to have a precise record of any damage we did do. But even wth our photographic proof I still think that without insurance we would have been looking at months of misery had the car...

Car rental company claimed I didn't return the car - A good story!

I'm glad I took the photos, but I think I still might have been in for a long ordeal if they had not figured out what happened, had I not had the Amex insurance. It was quite a relief to know that no matter what the car rental agency said, I would not be spending months defending myself and...

Car rental company claimed I didn't return the car - A good story!

Well this is an interesting story! When I returned my rental car (in Europe a couple of weeks ago) I asked for the receipt and that the rep finalize the return of my car. The agency was small and very busy, and the agent insisted over and over again that they would close it out later and...

Help me find the right travel insurance

Another example they gave was if you have had some diagnostic test within the look-back period. But for me, all of these examples were ridiculous. If I am buying insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, then I should be covered for all of them, no matter what they are.

Help me find the right travel insurance

I am in total agreement! You have to read and inquire into the specific policy. For me, personally, well, I didn't want to worry about the details. I told the the very helpful agent that I actually don't care to know what constitutes a pre-existing condition. I have them. I want to buy...

Help me find the right travel insurance

Neil, I appreciate what you are saying but it isn't quite applicable to all situations. It's true, they won't bother you about diabetes if you had no change in meds, but if the doctor changed your dose of insulin around that time, the insurance company would declare it a pre-existing condition...
